Meet the Makers
Jason Schaper, a California-born abstract artist, is known for his vibrant use of color, motion, and depth. His spontaneous creative process involves experimenting with unconventional materials to produce intricate, layered works that evoke organic forms and emotions. Jason's evolving style has earned him critical acclaim and a broad following in Los Angeles, leading to solo exhibitions, group shows, and commissions nationwide. Since 2007, he has lived on Kauaʻi, drawing inspiration from the island's ocean and shoreline, which continually influence his art.
No thinking, no reflecting,
Perfect emptiness;
Yet therein something moves,
Following its own course.
- A Taoist Priest
My work is both spontaneous and deeply personal. With no pre-conceived notions of
what each piece will be, I simply trust in my eyes and hands to reflect my current state of mind. My goal is to share a unique emotional experience with each new piece.
I desire to inspire creativity in others by not depicting specific images,
people, or places in my art. I want those who view my art to decide what they see on the canvas. What do the colors and brush strokes I use mean to them, what does their mind define it as?
By refusing to define my style I leave the door open to interpretation for the viewer,
pushing them to truly create their own unique relationship with my art.
