Suess Shrub - Bryce Baker

Bryce Baker is a multi-media artist based in Hawaii. As an artist, Baker doesn’t like feeling limited to what he already knows but continues to learn and make art in a multitude of mediums, creating small- and large-scaled paintings, hand tufted rugs, graphic design, among other things. He not only takes inspiration from his Japanese upbringing, but also the surf community in which he grew up in. Baker has collaborated with brands and organizations such as O’Hanalei Gallery, RVCA, Honolulu Museum of Art, Greenroom, Amsterdam Wetsuits, Trilogy Coffee, California General Store, Litmus Indigo Japan, Mollusk, Peaceman Gallery, YMCA, Wave Rider Nursery, and more.

We are consistently surrounded by rainfall and sun in Hawai'i; which ultimately creates the flourishing vegetation in our backyards - thus creating the flow of my "flower blob" shapes that I am always working with. All of the shapes that I create are all different in their own way, no two are the same; as goes the same for all of my friends/family that are in the surf communities stretched across this world.

The work I have created for Common Ground includes primary colors of the natural beauty this landscape holds; It made sense to pull these tones from the farm and the ocean- and bring them into the warehouse.
